Evennett welcomes Ofwat’s decision not to allow Thames Water to increase prices

David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, has backed the decision of Water Services Regulation Authority, Ofwat, not to allow Thames Water to increase their prices in 2014-5.

Ofwat regulates the amounts charged by water companies and had already agreed a price for 2014-5. However, Thames Water had applied for an interim adjustment of £29 for the year.

Mr Evennett wrote to Ofwat on behalf of constituents to object to the price rise and has made further representations to them today following the publication of their draft decision.

He commented “I do not believe that Thames Water’s application for a price rise is justified, not just because of the current economic climate, but also because of the service complaints I have received from a number of people in the past year. I am pleased that Ofwat has decided to refuse the application.”
