Christmas is a time for us all to share with our friends and families and celebrate the birth of Jesus. We reflect on the Christian messages of peace and love. We think too of all who are less fortunate than ourselves and those who have lost loved ones during the past year.
We must thank those serving our country at home and abroad who do so much to protect and look after us all in often difficult, challenging and life threatening circumstances, yet continue to work through Christmas. We owe them all a debt of gratitude.
Also at this time we look forward to the New Year and what I believe will be a crucial time for our country. At the General Election in May 2015, people will be asked to choose between two very different prospects for our country. The Conservatives have a long-term economic plan, which includes investment in our infrastructure, support for our NHS and further support for businesses to create more jobs. At the same time, we will be cutting taxes, making work pay, and reducing the deficit, whilst offering an EU referendum.
Labour’s plans would be disastrous; more public spending, higher taxes and an increased budget deficit will put our economic recovery at risk and potentially impact upon jobs, interest rates and growth. Labour’s thirteen years in Government were a disaster for Britain. We cannot afford another Labour Government.
I wish all my constituents a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
