Evennett speaks at Student Leaders Assembly launch

Rt Hon David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, was the guest speaker at the launch of Bexleyheath Academy’s Student Leaders Assembly on Friday morning, 15 January. Mr Evennett will be Patron of the group, which brings pupils together from across the school to talk about important issues.

The first session was on the subject of mental health and the pressures affecting young people. Mr Evennett said “It is vitally important that events like this take place so that young people have a forum to discuss their concerns and ways in which they can instigate change. There are so many pressures affecting young people now, including performing well at school, future careers, social media and bullying, family breakdown and mental health. I therefore welcome this initiative and hope that it will encourage more young people to talk.”

After his speech, there was a presentation on making time for your friends and a discussion about mental health.

Rt Hon David Evennett MP has been re-appointed to his Ministerial role in the new Conservative Government.

He will continue to be the Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury, and will serve in the Government Whips Office.
