Minister speaks at School’s “Be What You Want” Day

Sports Minister and Bexleyheath and Crayford MP David Evennett was one of the special guests at Pelham Primary School’s “Be What You Want Day” on Thursday 11 February, which was an exploration of the working world and the range of opportunities available as children grow up.

Pupils at the school in Barnehurst were encouraged to dress up as something they would like to be when they are older, with many going to School as prospective Police Officers, Doctors, Nurses, Firemen, Politicians and Footballers.

The School gathered for an Assembly with Mr Evennett and people from different walks of life, including a Police Officer, Virgin Atlantic Cabin Crew Member, Family Support Worker, Sign Language Specialist and Executive PA. Each spoke about their role, and Mr Evennett talked about his job as a Member of Parliament and Minister for Sport.

Afterwards, classes split off into groups with question and answer sessions with each of the adults who spoke.

Mr Evennett said “With so many opportunities and careers available, I welcome events like ‘Be What you Want’ Day. They compliment the school’s positive values, which include encouraging children to be confident, offer good role models and active in the community.”
