Rt Hon David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, was among a group of MPs who went to Number 11 Downing Street yesterday to lobby for extra support for regeneration along the River Thames, to the east of London. MPs with constituencies in South East London, Kent and Essex were represented at the meeting.
Mr Evennett made his case to the Rt Hon George Osborne MP, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, for the urgent need to commit to an extension of Crossrail from Abbey Wood to Ebbsfleet.
He commented “We have so much potential along the riverside but transport services must be improved and extended. Local rail services are poor and Southeastern has failed to cope with the growth in passenger numbers. The extension of Crossrail could give a huge boost to economic development in our area, together with new housing and business opportunities”.
