An Autumn Statement that delivers economic and national security

Rt Hon David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, has welcomed the announcements made by the Chancellor of the Exchequer in his Autumn Statement to the House of Commons today (25 November).

The Autumn Statement outlined a number of policies relating to support for working people and national security.

Mr Evennett said “I welcome the Chancellor’s commitment to maintain Police budgets and increase investment in defence and counter-terrorism services, which is vital at the present time. It means that we can maintain an effective Police force whilst tackling the potential threats that our country faces.”

On issues relating to economic security, Mr Evennett added “We will be increasing the amount of free childcare available, cut taxes on childcare costs and create new nursery places to support working families. We will tax big business to pay for more apprenticeships and protect the schools budget so that people can learn new skills. The Government will ensure that many more homes are built.

“I am particularly pleased that we will maintain free entry to our national museums and galleries and invest extra funding in elite sports to help our stars of tomorrow.”
