Rt Hon David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, met with the Secretary of State for International Development, Rt Hon Justine Greening MP, on Tuesday afternoon (30 June) to discuss a campaign by pupils at Bexleyheath Academy.
Year 7 pupils at the school have been taking part in the Send My Friend to School Campaign, which promotes education for children in developing countries. Mr Evennett discussed their campaign with them at the School recently and took their campaign cards to Whitehall today.
He presented them to the Secretary of State following their discussion, together with a letter making representations on their behalf.
Mr Evennett said “Education is so vitally important all and we are so very lucky to have such a wide-ranging provision for people of all ages in Britain. However, as many as 58 million children around the world are not so fortunate. We as a country are providing resources to developing countries and is one of the priorities of the Government’s aid programme.
“I was pleased to see so many children at Bexleyheath Academy take an interest in this important issue and I am delighted to be able to help further their cause by meeting with the Secretary of State.”
