Rt Hon David Evennett, Member of Parliament for Bexleyheath and Crayford, pledged his support to carers across his constituency as part of the national Carers Week 2015 awareness campaign, which runs from 8-14th June. He attended the launch event in Parliament on Monday 8th June.
There are 6.5 million people in the UK who care for a partner, relative or friend, of which 9029 carers are in Bexleyheath and Crayford.
The six charities promoting Carers Week 2015 are calling on individuals, organisations and services throughout the country to help improve the lives of carers by building ‘carer-friendly communities’ that consider and support their needs.
Mr Evennett said “Carers make a hugely valuable contribution to society and they need assistance to help them carry on the vital work that they do. That is why I am supporting this initiative. I do all that I can to ensure carers receive all the support that is available to them through my work as the Member of Parliament and shall continue to do so. I hope that employers, local authorities and other organisations can do the same.”
