Schools hold their own Parliament at Westminster

School ParliamentDavid Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, hosted a special visit by local pupils to Parliament on Wednesday, 15 October.

Children from each of the Woodlands Academy Trust’s schools, Peareswood, Willow Bank and Northumberland Heath Primary Schools, held a meeting of their “Trust Parliament” in Portcullis House. Their school council and other committees discussed a variety of issues, including catering, sports, e-safety, performing arts and the environment, with staff present to listen to their views.

They then met with Mr Evennett outside Westminster Hall, where they learnt a little about the history of the building and some of the important events that have taken place at Parliament.

Mr Evennett said “It was a pleasure to host this special visit and where better to host a meeting of a School Parliament than Westminster itself! I am delighted that children are being encouraged to take part in such activities and hope that their discussions will help make a difference at their schools.”
