TfL are seeking views on a number of proposals for new river crossings in East London, one of which includes a Galleons Reach crossing.
I strongly object to the proposal for a Bridge at Gallions Reach. I opposed the Thames Gateway Bridge and spoke against it at the public inquiry. The current Mayor of London scrapped this scheme, rightly, because it would cause serious problems with extra traffic, pollution and noise nuisance. The plan also failed to include any proper investment in the road network on the Bexley side of the river. As such, I object to the proposal of a road bridge at Gallions Reach.
I have concerns about the consequences of a road crossing at Belvedere for residents in my constituency, who would be affected by pollution and traffic. Serious consideration needs to be given to the cost of this Bridge and the changes required to the road network to service a crossing at Belvedere.
I strongly support the proposal for a Silvertown Tunnel, which would alleviate problems at the Blackwall Tunnel and benefits from being able to connect to existing infrastructure.
Local residents have until 18 September to respond to the consultation, which can be found here: https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/roads/river-crossings
