Evennett welcomes good economic news

Speaking at the Executive Council of Bexleyheath and Crayford Conservative Association on Wednesday night (12 February), local MP David Evennett highlighted the recent good economic news and stated that “whilst there remains much more to do, we are now seeing real results from the Government’s policies on the economy.”

At the well attended meeting held in the Bexleyheath Conservative Club, Mr Evennett noted that:

– Inflation had fallen to 2%
– Economic growth forecasts had risen to 3.4% for 2014
– Unemployment had fallen by 30% in Bexleyheath and Crayford since the General Election in 2010
– 530 more constituents are now in work than in May 2010
– There are 180 more businesses registered locally

He also referenced his visits to numerous local and highly successful businesses in the constituency, where “optimism and orders are on the rise.”

Mr Evennett said “Conservatives in Government are making real progress in fixing the damage caused by 13 years of Labour’s economic mismanagement, helping more people into work, supporting small businesses and reforming our benefits system in favour of hard-working people.”

He warned about what would happen if Labour returned to power either nationally or locally and reminded members of the “boom and bust” policies of the last Labour Government. He urged members to ensure that the Conservative message was taken to all doorsteps across the constituency during the Council and Euro election campaigns in the Spring.
