David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, is pictured at Slade Green Infants School on Thursday morning (18 July) during a special presentation. Linda Wainwright, a teacher at the school for over 30 years, was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list this year, and Mr Evennett, along with pupil Ellen Woods, were asked to present flowers to congratulate her.
She is highly respected for her work with children who have emotional, social and communication difficulties, developing many teaching practices to help them do well at school. She helped set up from scratch a specialist unit for children with speech, language, communication and emotional difficulties, which has helped many of them to enter mainstream education. As an expert in sign language she established a ‘signing choir’ which performs under her direction in the local community.
The presentation took place after Year 2’s End of Year Performance to parents, which Mr Evennett also watched. The show included songs, dancing and presentations from pupils about what they had learnt this year, which included animals, space and pirates.
