Commonwealth Parliamentarians visit Bexleyheath

David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, hosted a visit to Bexleyheath by Parliamentarians from the Commonwealth on Friday morning, 21 June. The event was part of a week-long Conference arranged by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, with four days based at Westminster, and the final day visiting constituencies to learn about the role of a local MP.

The group included representatives from Australia, Kenya, Maldives, Nigeria, the Cook Islands and Sierra Leone.

The delegation met Mr Evennett at the western end of the Broadway and walked through the shopping centre, during which time they were given some history of the town and the Borough.

Their first meeting took place at the Bexleyheath Marriott Hotel, where they met with the Manager of the Bexleyheath Business Improvement District and the new General Manager of the Hotel, Russell Prior, to talk about business locally and issues faced in their home countries.

The next meeting took place at 17 Church Road in Bexleyheath, where Mr Evennett led a discussion about his role as a constituency MP, representative in the House of Commons and Government Whip.

The final part of the visit saw the guests visit Danson House for a tour by some of the volunteers, which was arranged by Bexley Heritage Trust.
