David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, paid a visit to the Quit Bus in Bexleyheath Broadway on Wednesday morning (13 March) to support the Bexley Stop Smoking Service on No Smoking Day.
Representatives of the Bexley Stop Smoking Service and Bexley Dental Team were giving advice to Bexleyheath shoppers on how they can support people to stop smoking. Shoppers were offered leaflets that show the significant financial savings that people could make if they quit smoking. The literature also suggests items that smokers might wish to buy instead.
For example, somebody smoking 20 cigarettes a day could save themselves over £2500 a year, or after a month, purchase music festival tickets with the money saved. Despite the snow flurries, over 30 people also boarded the Quit Bus.
Mr Evennett said “I am pleased to support this campaign as it highlights the fact that there are significant financial benefits when people stop smoking as well as important health benefits. The Bexley Stop Smoking Service does a fantastic job by supporting hundreds of Bexley residents to quit smoking every year. I would encourage smokers to contact them for information and advice as they will really benefit by stopping.”
Jo Woodvine, Manager of Bexley’s Stop Smoking Service, said “We were delighted that David Evennett MP took time out of his busy schedule to come and join us on the Quit Bus to support No Smoking Day by encouraging local smokers to sign up to quit. He is always very supportive of our Service.”
