David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, recently paid a visit to St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Old Road, Crayford (Friday 8 February).

He was invited to meet with the Headteacher, Mrs Sinclair and Chairman of Governors, Tom Boshell, to discuss developments at the school and their encouraging Oftsed monitoring visit, which took place recently. Also in attendance was School Governor Cllr Howard Marriner.

Mr Evennett was given a tour of the school by Mrs Sinclair, during which he met teachers and pupils.

After coffee with staff and Governors, he answered questions from Year 5 pupils about the legislative process as they had been learning about how laws are made. He also met with the School Council pupil representatives to talk about local issues such as road crossings and the environment.

Mr Evennett said “I was impressed with the behaviour of the pupils and the way in which teachers were conducting their lessons. The School’s focus on Maths and English is welcome and I saw some excellent examples of the work that the pupils are doing. I welcome the fact that they are engaging with the local community and other outside bodies and the School is to be congratulated on their progress.”
