David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, has welcomed the Government’s recent announcement of funding to help keep the poorest residents in Bexley warm this winter.
Bexley Council will receive £101,565 from the Government for their Bexley Warm Homes Scheme.
This investment comes from the Government’s Warm Homes Healthy People fund which invited Local authorities to bid for money from the Department of Health to reduce deaths over the winter months. The scheme will help Councils to fund:
• Energy efficiency projects to the most vulnerable people;
• Providing residents with better advice;
• Ensuring better public awareness of cold weather; and
• Providing staff and volunteers with fuel poverty/cold weather awareness training.
Mr Evennett said: “My constituents will be pleased to know the Government is spending extra money to help keep the most vulnerable members of our community warm this winter. Once again the Prime Minister’s commitment to supporting hard pressed people is being shown.
“Along with discounts to energy bills, increasing cold weather payments, protecting winter fuel payments and legislating so that customers the lowest tariffs, this action shows how serious Conservatives in Government are about helping people with energy costs and helping those in need.”
