David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, has called for the Government to take tough action to improve rail services for local commuters. The Department for Transport has launched a consultation for a new franchise to start in April 2014, when Southeastern’s present contract expires.
In a letter to the Secretary of State, Mr Evennett has said today that “This new franchise is a real opportunity to radically improve services for my constituents. The new operator must be subject to tougher performance targets, fares must be brought under control, and rolling stock levels increased to reduce overcrowding. Since 2006, Southeastern have consistently let down local commuters and rail travellers. We expect better in the future.”
