David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, hosted a visit by Commonwealth Parliamentarians and clerks to the constituency on Friday morning, 9 March. The event was organised in conjunction with the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association as part of a week-long programme of events relating to Parliamentary Practice and Procedure.
To begin with, the guests were given a short walking tour of Bexleyheath Town Centre, including a history of the Borough and the constituency. From the Town Centre, they walked to the Bexleyheath and Crayford Conservative Association office for a discussion with Mr Evennett about the role of an MP locally, constituency case work and how the delegates make representations.
The group were then taken to Hall Place for a tour and a meeting with Bexley Heritage Trust Chief Executive Caroline Worthington. This was to demonstrate how MPs work with local organisations.
The final event was a talk with Bexley Mayor Cllr Ray Sams in his Parlour at Bexley Civic Offices. Here, delegates learned about local Government, the ceremonial role of Bexley’s Mayor and the history of the Council.
