Lord Hill of Oareford CBE, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Schools, and David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, were the special guests at Townley Grammar School’s Celebration of Academy status on Friday morning, 27 January.
Lord Hill and Mr Evennett were taken on a tour of the school by Headteacher Desmond Deehan, Chairman of Governors John Paterson and Head Girl Natasha Wooderson, before watching a dance performance in the theatre.
The Minister then gave a short speech and unveiled a special plaque to commemorate the school’s conversion. He was also the first person to sign the school’s new Guest Book.
Afterwards, Lord Hill and Mr Evennett had tea with pupils and Governors.
Townley Grammar School achieved Academy status on 1 January 2012.
