David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, has welcomed and strongly supported the Prime Minister’s approach during the EU talks which took place in Brussels last week.
David Cameron rejected a proposed new European treaty as it did not offer adequate safeguards for Britain. Following the meeting, the Prime Minister said “What is on offer isn’t in Britain’s interests, so I didn’t agree to it.”
Mr Evennett commented “I was pleased with the Prime Minister’s decision last week, which was tough but necessary. He was right to veto plans for a new Treaty and it is essential to safeguard the City of London and Britain’s interests. With the current difficulties the Eurozone is in, it is important, and strongly in our national interest, to support them in dealing with their problems whilst continuously looking for opportunities to advance our own national interest.”
