David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, has welcomed the news that the Government will be increasing the basic state pension by £5.30 per week next year – a rise of 5.2%.
Under the triple-lock guarantee introduced by the Government, pensions are now up-rated by the CPI inflation rate, earnings or 2.5% – whichever figure is highest. Key benefits such as the Winter Fuel Allowance, free TV licences and free prescriptions have also been kept.
Commenting on the decision, Mr Evennett said “I am pleased that the Government is keeping its promises to pensioners. Next year’s £5.30 per week increase is the largest ever cash rise in the state pension and will be of real assistance to those who rely on it.”
