David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, has welcomed the news that the Dartford Crossing toll rises, planned for November 2011 and April 2012, will not now go ahead.
Mr Evennett had previously opposed plans to increase the charge to £2 this month and then to £2.50 in April next year.
In a Written Ministerial Statement published on Thursday, 24 November, Transport Minister Mike Penning said “In recognition of the number of representations made and to allow the Department time to carefully consider the responses further, I can advise that there will be no increase in either November 2011 or April 2012.”
Commenting on the decision, Mr Evennett said “I welcome the decision not to go ahead with the proposed increases. I hope that Ministers will give careful consideration to the representations they have received to this consultation when considering any future proposals for the tolls at this Crossing.”
