David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, joined other MPs at Silver Star’s Diabetes awareness event at the Houses of Commons on Wednesday (19 October). As well as discussing the need to increase public testing for the disease with Silver Star representatives, Mr Evennett took the quick and simple Type 2 diabetes test used to test people for the disease.
Mr Evennett said, “I applaud the work Silver Star are doing to raise public awareness about diabetes. It is estimated that more than one million people in the UK are unaware that they have the condition, and the key to preventing diabetes is physical activity and a healthy diet.”
As well as running Mobile Diabetes Units (MDU’s) that carry out important diabetes testing, Silver Star also seek to promote culturally sensitive healthcare, with particular regard to the high prevalence of diabetes in the major towns and cities of Britain.
