David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, has given his backing to a new youth diversionary project run by Bexley Police called Team TKO.
The initiative was started by Danson Park Safer Neighbourhood Team Sergeant Andrew Kleywegt as a way of encouraging young people to try some of the different martial art disciplines. Trained instructors, who are either serving Police Officers or members of local clubs will lead the classes.
The project was launched at Crook Log Leisure Centre in Bexleyheath on Thursday 6 October, where guests were given demonstrations of some of the disciplines that young people can sample, including Thai Boxing, Judo and Karate.
Commenting on the project, Mr Evennett said “I believe that this is a worthwhile initiative, that will be of great benefit to young people who want to try new sports and meet new people. I hope that it succeeds”.
Also amongst the guests was Bexley Mayor, Cllr Ray Sams and two-time former World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Tim Witherspoon.
