David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, has again called for South London Healthcare NHS Trust to be broken in order to protect the Queen Mary’s Hospital site in Sidcup.
Mr Evennett wrote to Rt Hon Andrew Lansley MP, the Secretary of State for Health, on 30 March, urging him to look at the situation again, following reports that the Trust were considering plans to sell parts of the Queen Mary’s site. He received the attached response from Simon Burns, the Health Minister responsible for service reorganisation policy, on Tuesday 26 April.
Commenting on the Minister’s reply, Mr Evennett said “I believe that the Trust always intended to sell land at Queen Mary’s Hospital in order to try and solve their financial problems. By doing so, the residents of Bexley are paying the price for the poorly negotiated, expensive PFI deals at the other Hospitals in the group.
“In order to ensure a viable future for Queen Mary’s, the Trust should be broken up and the plans for other services that have been submitted carefully considered.”
