Bexley benefits from pupil premium

David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, has welcomed new figures which show that around 4,610 children living in Bexley will receive more support through the Government’s pupil premium.

£1,978,000 will be provided by the Government to local schools to provide extra assistance such as one-to-one tuition and additional pastoral care for children in the Borough.

From April 2011, the pupil premium will be worth £430 for every pupil on Free School Meals, £430 for every looked-after child, and £200 for every child who has a parent in the armed services.

Mr Evennett said “I am pleased that the Government is delivering their promise to fund a pupil premium, providing crucial support for disadvantaged children in Bexleyheath and Crayford.

“I believe that the Government’s schools reforms – enabling more schools to seek academy status, letting parents, charities and other groups set up free schools, paying a pupil premium, giving powers to Headteachers to improve school discipline and reducing bureaucracy – will help drive up standards and improve education for all”.
