Helping families, pensioners and businesses

David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, has welcomed measures announced in the Budget by the Chancellor of the Exchequer yesterday (23 March) that will help families, pensioners and businesses. These include:

• Raising the personal allowance so that 1million people will no longer pay any tax and 25million people benefit from a tax cut

• A fair fuel stabiliser that enables a fuel duty cut of 1p and the postponement of planned rises

• A guarantee that the state pension will rise by earnings, inflation or 2.5% every year, with free television licences and the winter fuel allowance retained

• Corporation tax cuts for businesses and the creation of new Enterprise Zones

• More apprenticeships, work placements and University Technical Colleges

• Confirmation that council tax would be frozen and additional money for Bexley Council to repair local roads

Mr Evennett said “Despite the really tough economic situation, it was excellent news that the Chancellor was able to assist those hardest hit by Labour’s legacy of debt and mismanagement. Businesses will be free to grow, the tax system will be fairer and banks will be responsible for paying their share towards rebuilding Britain’s economy.”
